What does Microtex do that a universal needle does not?

It has a slimmer shaft and a genuinely sharp point rather than a slightly rounded one. On tightly woven or coated fabric a universal point deflects off the threads instead of passing between them, which shows up as skipped stitches and puckering along the seam. Microtex enters cleanly and leaves a smaller hole.

Can I use Microtex on jersey?

No. A sharp point pierces the yarn of a knitted loop rather than sliding past it, and a pierced loop becomes a run that travels. Knits want a ball point or a jersey needle; the sharpness that helps on silk is precisely what damages a knit.
