Stop and take the needle plate off before you force anything. A stiff handwheel almost always means something is physically obstructing the mechanism, and forcing it is how a five-minute fix becomes a workshop repair.
Check, in this order.
Thread jammed in the hook. By far the commonest cause. A nest of thread wraps the hook and locks it. Remove the needle plate and the bobbin case, and pick the thread out with tweezers. Do not pull hard on a tail that has not been freed — you can drag the hook out of position.
The bobbin winder left engaged. On many machines, pushing the winder spindle across disconnects the needle bar. The wheel then feels odd rather than stiff, and the needle does not move. Push it back.
The bobbin case seated wrongly, or a bobbin of the wrong class jamming in the race.
Old, hardened oil. On a machine stored for years the oil turns gummy. A drop of proper sewing machine oil in the race and working the wheel gently by hand usually frees it, though it may want a service.
Something dropped inside — a broken needle tip, a pin, a snipped thread end.
Only after all of those should you consider a mechanical fault. Genuine seizure of the mechanism is rare, and it is a technician’s job.
Never turn the handwheel backwards to free a jam. Turn it towards you, the normal direction, and only as far as it goes freely.

It freed up but now the stitch is wrong.
Re-thread completely with the presser foot up, fit a new needle and a fresh bobbin. A jam usually leaves the top thread out of the tension discs.
